There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.
Brutus, Julius Caesar Act 4, scene 3, 218–224
William Shakespeare

I like to imagine that the universe is infinite.
Because by nature of the word infinite, there MUST be an infinite number of planets that sustain life. And by nature of the word infinite, there MUST be infinite permutations of different kinds of life. And by nature of the word infinite, there MUST be infinite planets that have become earthlike. And by nature of the word infinite there MUST be infinite planets whose life forms not only resemble, but exactly match those found on Earth. And by nature of the word infinite, there MUST be an exact clone of this world and its history and its people and its decision.
And by nature of the word infinite there must be infinite occurences where you talked to that girl you should have talked to.

I Incepted Myself
A True Story
I just woke up. Dreams are fucking crazy - they're like this wierd state where youre unconscious but conscious at the same time.
I've posted about a lucid dream I had before and this is similar. Except I knew I wasn't supposed to be asleep this time.
When I got home from work, planning on going to the gym, I plugged my phone in to charge. I wasn't going to be home for a few hours, having plans immediately after the gym, so I wanted to make sure I had juice. I layed on my bed and the next thing I knew, I was walking out of my job, calmly chatting with my boss.
Then I realized with a start, that I had already done this. I had already left work, and it WASN'T - and rarely ever is - with my boss. So I snapped out of it.
Then, my world began to reform. So there I was... walking out of work. With my fellow techs, which is what usually ends up happening. And I was totally cool with this, thinking "ah, everythings back to normal."
It took me second to realize I'd been had by my subconscious. I had already left work and gotten home and I knew it. Nice try.
This time for some reason it took some effort to shake out of it. You ever had 'sleep paralysis'? Where you're just barely awake but you can't move for a little bit. Freaky as hell. Anyway the effort I was putting in to wake up was similar to that.
Finally I was able to break out of that dream and there I was, back in my room... sitting on the floor... using the computer... NOPE, this isn't right either. What the fuck, brain? I quickly realized that I still in a dream and redoubled my efforts to break back into consciousness. This was the hardest of the three to break and I remember screaming "WAKE UP!" in my mind, almost physically shaking the world I was in. If it wasn't so funny I might have been a little shook by it all.
Anyway, this brings us to about 10 minutes ago, as I opened my eyes on my back in bed. Looking up at the ceiling, I waited a couple seconds, and sat up. I was totally disoriented and had no idea how much time had passed. My only clue was the light leaking through my curtain, telling me that it was no more than an hour or two. Satisfied with this, but disappointed that I didn't have time to go to the gym, I finally got up.
