Thought of the Day

Negativity begs, encourages, and breeds negativity. Reset.

fuck - times are changing, things are getting crazy and it's making people fall apart. we as people got to adapt and survive. people are pack animals and with the state of society and the modern family thats becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. maybe we should reconsider how we think about "closeness" and "family" and who/how we show love. i'm no psychic but somethings got to change or else

Japan's 'Lonely Deaths': A Business Opportunity
By Justin Nobel / Tokyo

In the 1990s, Taichi Yoshida, the owner of a small moving company in Osaka, Japan, began noticing that many of his jobs involved people who had just died. Families of the deceased were either too squeamish to pack up for their dead relatives, or there wasn't any family to call on. So Yoshida started a new business cleaning out the homes of the dead. Then he started noticing something else: thick, dark stains shaped like a human body, the residue of liquids excreted by a decomposing corpse.

These, he learned, were kodokushi, or 'lonely deaths.' Now he has seen plenty — these deaths make up 300 of the 1,500 cleaning jobs performed by his company each year. The people die alone, sprawled on the floor beside crumpled clothing and dirty dishes, tucked beneath flowery bedspreads, slouched against the wall. Months — even years — can pass before somebody notices a body. On occasion, all that's left are bones. "The majority of lonely deaths are people who are kind of messy," says Yoshida. "It's the person who, when they take something out, they don't put it back; when something breaks, they don't fix it; when a relationship falls apart, they don't repair it."

The Uncomfortable Truth

This is a short article, with no real arguments, clearly a means to advertise and sell her book, but regardless it can spur a thought which will hopefully linger and stick long enough to get someone to become better.

Struggling with a 'bad thought'
By Kathleen Norris, Special to CNN

(CNN) -- On a recent trip across America, what surprised me most was the number of people -- over 200 in one city, 80 to 150 elsewhere -- who wanted to discuss this odd word, "acedia."

It's an ancient term signifying profound indifference and inability to care about things that matter, even to the extent that you no longer care that you can't care.

Quote of the Day

"You will erase everything you had written in the book of your life up until now: restlessness, uncertainty, lies. And in the place of all this you will write the word 'courage.' By beginning with that word and continuing with faith in God, you will arrive wherever you need to arrive."
- excerpt from Paulo Coelho's 'Warrior of the Light'

how my dream became lucid

## preface: if you don't know what a lucid dream is go read about it first. Its a really interesting phenomenon, and I want to do more research on it. ##

I just had a lucid dream. Its not the first time I've had one and it certainly wasn't the best, considering it was literally one of those exhaustion naps where you just keep it moving right after you wake up. But its fresh in my memory and I've always wanted to record what it was like, for those who've never had one, and those who have and haven't met anyone else that has.

It started like this:

I was driving home from work, and traffic was just thinning out. I eagerly took advantage of the extra space and sped up when I realized I was way too tired to be driving. I tried to snap myself out of it but it became apparent to me that I was about to pass out at the wheel, and I was so far gone at that point that I didn't have the faculties to even pull over. I remember thinking, "I'm gonna die." Then my head snapped. Wait, what is this? I remember this. I remember driving past this very spot already. I remember the way that median looked and the style of the houses. As a matter of fact I remember getting home and immediated jumping in bed and passing out... wait a minute, I'm dreaming!

This is where it got interesting. My experience with lucid dreams taught me the potential of this situation. So I tried a little experiment, just to make sure. "I'm not driving a busted '96 Nissan Sentra, I'm driving a Ferrari."

And then I was in a Ferrari.

Nice.

Traffic had gotten a little thicker at this point, so with my newfound speed and maneuverability, I started weaving back and forth between lanes. Oh yeah, this is the way to travel.

Then, I started to get hungry for more. I wanted to go faster.

With that, I careened over the median into the much less populated westbound lane of Randolph Rd. into oncoming traffic. (My car didn't get damaged by the median basically because I told it not to.) I swerved around the sporadic cars coming my way going about 60, and at the next intersection, I drove back into the eastbound lanes, now that the cars there had been held up by a red light. Going about 80 I decided I wanted to drive on I-95. Now, in real life, id either have to take rt.29 to 495 to 95 or just wait till I got to Powder Mill Rd., but fortunately, this wasn't real life. I took the Randolph Rd. exit onto 95, a little frustrated by a slow car also taking the same exit (can't avoid traffic even in dreams... that I control).

Once I got around grandma, I floored it. Exhilirating. I could really get used to this. I was picking up speed fast, and just as I reached 100mph... I woke up.

Ah well it was fun while it lasted.
